Four Illinois medical error survivors are among nearly two dozen signers of a letter to President Barack Obama that addresses health care reform proposals.
The letter, sent Thursday, urges Obama and congressional leaders not to include malpractice caps in discussions at the health care reform summit slated for February 25. The effort is spearheaded by the consumer group Center for Justice and Democracy.
The Illinoisans signing the letter include a New Lenox woman who had a mastectomy after a false cancer diagnosis; a St. Charles man who had surgery on the wrong side of his brain, and a Chicago woman whose son developed brain damage during birth and died last month at age 14.
Also signing the letter was a Chicago woman whose husband died after a device was left inside during surgery.
