Debate on 'lawsuit abuse' waged on dueling web sites

Ohio Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse has launched an Internet web site to promote its efforts to limit damages in civil suits, a movement known in legal circles as tort reform.
"We believe that by raising awareness and educating the public about the issue of lawsuit abuse, there will be a change in understanding, attitude and behavior,'' said OCALA Director Dana Smith.
The site includes links to other organizations that contend out-of-control jury verdicts threaten the economy's well-being.
Meanwhile, the Center for Justice and Democracy, which opposes damage award limits, issued a press release calling state groups formed under the lawsuit-abuse mantle as "front-groups for major industries seeking immunity from lawsuits.''
The Center has a Web site to promote its side of the argument -- www. centerjd.org.
