Ads Criticize Frist's Stance On Lawsuit Caps

Television ads critical of U.S. Senator Bill Frist's support for caps on medical malpractice claims are running in Memphis and in several states. Frist supported legislation to cap the amount of punitive damages plaintiffs can claim in suits against doctors and their insurers. The former heart surgeon argued that without such protection many doctors will quit the profession or limit their services. Americans for Insurance Reform, a coalition of consumer, labor and activist groups, sponsored the ads.
